Xu Weixin (徐唯辛) – Chinese realist painter, professor of painting, specializing in portrait art. Born in Urumqi, Xinjiang Province, in 1958. He received a bachelor’s degree from the Xi’an Academy of Arts and a master’s degree from the Zhejiang Academy of Arts. He worked as the executive dean of the Renmin University Art School in Beijing. Xu Weixing’s works are exhibited in state museums and kept in private collections. Personal exhibitions include “Song of Workers” (Shanghai Art Museum, 2007), “Chinese Historical Figures: 1966–1976” (Today Art Museum, Beijing, 2007), Images of China: Portraits in Circulation (Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, Harvard University, 2011), Immortal Portraits (University of Michigan Art Museum, 2016). Currently, Xu Weixin lives in New York, where he has his own studio.

Since April 15, 2022, Xu Weixin started the project “iPad live: Ukrainian landscape” on the website http://www.xuweixinart.com, as well as on Twitter. The artist closely follows the events in Ukraine, every day sketches war scenes, the faces of politicians, soldiers, activists, and ordinary Ukrainians.
