On April 14, 2022, Chinese state television broadcast an interview with correspondent Li Jianhua and the so-called «leader» of the so-called «Donetsk People’s Republic» Denis Pushilin, a separatist (https://news.cgtn.com/news/2022-04-14/VHJhbnNjcmlwdDY0NDUz/index.html).

According to the Ukrainian Association of Sinologists, which has been involved in the legal framework of Ukrainian-Chinese relations in different years, this interview is a flagrant violation of the spirit and letter of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Ukraine and China, and a number of bilateral declarations, as well as the essence of the strategic relations partnership between Ukraine and China. Such behavior by a Chinese journalist is unacceptable and should receive an appropriate response from the competent authorities of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Association of Sinologists includes many Ukrainian diplomats who once worked in Beijing. We consider the fact that such an interview happened to be a denial of the principles and agreements of Ukrainian-Chinese relations. We hope that the principled position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on this issue will be expressed to the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Association of Sinologists is convinced that the relations of strategic partnership between Ukraine and China are only strengthening in these difficult times despite Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. The Ukrainian and Chinese peoples will overcome the Russian hell and achieve peace and development.
